Kojic Acid

Kojic acid functions as a skin brightener. Kojic acid is a by-product of the fermentation process of malting rice for use in the manufacture of sake, Japanese rice wine. There is convincing research, both in vitro and in vivo and in animal studies, showing that kojic acid is effective for inhibiting melanin production. The ancillary antibacterial properties of kojic acid make it an effective ingredient in the treatment of breakouts, as well as the resultant PIH (Post Inflammatory Hyper-pigmentation).
